Maladdu – Pottukadalai Laddu

Maladdu
Maladdu is one quick sweet for any occasion with no chance for flops. This laddu is usually made during  Krishna Jayanthi pooja / Gokulashtami but really don’t need an occasion, this can be a simple treat any time.
Pottukadalai Laddu / Split roasted gram laddu / MaaLaddu / Maladu / Maladoo / Laddu / Pottu Kadalai Urundai / Dalia Laddu / Udacha Kadalai Urundai / Odacha Kadalai Urundai
Some laddu recipes to try…
Ingredients
  1 & ½ cup   Pottukadalai
  1 cup   Sugar
  ½ cup   Ghee
  2   Cardamom crushed
  7 whole   Cashews

Lets see how to make this Maladdu

Assemble all the ingredients needed for the laddu.

In a mixie powder the Pottukadalai / Split roasted gram / Dalia / Chickpea to a fine consistency along with that one cardamom mentioned. Again powder the granulated sugar too and keep aside. Now we have take equal quantity of both the powder. That is for every cup of powdered pottukadalai flour its 1 cup of powdered sugar. Mix them both in a big bowl.

Break the cashews to small pieces and then fry them in little ghee until golden and add it to the flour mixture.

Warm up the remaining ghee until melted and slowly add the to the mixture. (Ghee mentioned may be slightly more, so add little at a time, don’t pour all at once)

Keep working until it reaches a crumbly texture.

When you press and knead you should be able to make little laddus as shown. That’s the texture we are looking for. Once ready, apply some ghee to you hands and starts making small laddus. They tend to break easily so work it up with ghee.

Notes

Yield: 1 dozen laddus approx

Bakya, I don't think it will work out. Icing sugar has cornstarch and when you add warm ghee it make it sticky. Just use regular sugar. Thanks.
