Usually we use channa dal r moong dal for making kootu, i tried it out with 3 dals as well as with ginger garlic paste n garam masala powder, this kootu tastes awesome n goes with hot rice topped with ghee as well for chappathis, parathas, idlies, dosais n even with pongal…with two cups of mixed veggies, this kootu will be colourful as well as with plenty of vitamins…give a trial friends..
Three dhals Kootu/Tri dals n veggies masala/ Three dals vegetable kootu/Masala kootu
|2 cup||Mixed vegetables(carrots, beans, zucchini, radish r any veggies of ur choice)|
|¼ cup||Split moongdal(paasi paruppu)|
|¼ cup||Channa dal (kadala paruppu)|
|¼ cup||Toor dal(thuvaram paruppu)|
|1 no||Onion (chopped)|
|3 nos||Green chillies|
|1 tsp||Ginger paste|
|1 tsp||Garlic paste|
|¼ tsp||Turmeric powder|
|1 tsp||Garam masala powder|
|5 tsp||Oil ( as per need)|
|1 tsp||Fennel seed|
|¼ tsp||Mustard seeds|
|¼ tsp||Urad dal|
|3 nos||Red chillies|
|5 nos||Curry leaves|
Take a pressure cooker, heat 3 tsp of oil n add the chopped onions followed by chopped tomatoe pieces n cook them until they turns mushy..add the ginger paste n garlic paste n cook them until the raw smell goes away..add the 2 cups of veggies n cook them for a while..slit open the green chilly n add them too…now add the garam masala powder, salt to the veggies, meanwhile wash thoroughly together the channa dal, moong dal n toor dal…add the mixed dals to the veggies with turmeric powder..grind the fennel seed n grated coconut finely in a food processor r mixie with half cup of water n add this to the mixed veggies n dals, adjust ur kootu by adding water as per ur need, check for salt…close the pressure cooker with the lid n cook them until 3 whistles…put off the stove..
Heat 2tsp of oil in a pan, add the mustard seeds, urad dal n red chillies as well as the curry leaves to the oil n let them splutters..open the lid of the cooker n add this to the masala kootu..
Masala kootu is ready to serve with hot rice r any dinner r breakfast dish of ur choice…
