    Hiiiii
    We srilankans also make vatral kuzhambu only with onion & some garlic… we call it venthaya kuzhambu… We fry onion n garlic until they turn out into brown n add some fenugreek seeds. We only use gingely oil as well… Just the venthaya kuzhambu tastes good with white rice… Nothing can beat it na… You remembered our venthaya kuzhambu… going to make it this weekend

    Hi,
    Side dish for vathal kolumbu should not be too spicy .You can have omlete, egg fry(burgi), potato or simply appalam(pappads)

    Hi visitor,
    Store brought sambhar pwd can also be used.The way I prepare sambhar pwd is ;
    coriander seeds – 2 tbsp
    chana dal – 1tbsp
    fenugreek seeds – 1/4 tsp
    black pepper – 4-5
    rice – 1tsp
    jeera – 1tsp
    curry leaves – 5-6(optional)
    Dry roast all the above ingredients, when cool grind to a fine powder. I dont usally add red chillies ,directly I use red chilly powder while making curry
    Hope u enjoy vathal kolumbu as well as sambhar made of this powder.
