Lima Beans Poriyal

| |

Lima Beans or Butter Beans is a good source of cholesterol lowering fiber. This factor prevents blood sugar levels from rising too rapidly after a meal, making these beans an especially good choice for individuals with diabetes, insulin resistance or hypoglycemia.  Taking them on a regular basis is good for your health. These beans are sweet and very starchy.. suits well for any gravy or saute type of dishes. Recipe shown here is my attempt to introduce this flavourful beans to my family in the form of Poriyal / saute with coconut lentil combination. I've used frozen baby lima beans which comes in very handy on a busy cooking day, its available in most grocery stores in frozen section.. even some Indian stores carry these in frozen section.

Brinjal Chops (Bhai's Style)

| | |

Brinjal Chops is just another fancy name for  " Stuffed Brinjal curry /Ennai kathrikkai", this recipe has been already shared by me but this version is slightly different and its close to the one served with biryani by catering agencies. My recipe shared here is something which I learned from a Muslim bhai who caters biryani for special occasion's and its typical tamizh Muslim style. They prepare these with black sesame seeds, never add any garam masala and brinjal's don't get be stuffed, instead they are chopped lengthwise and literally float in sesame oil.

Ennai Kathrikkai / Yennai kathrikkai Kuzhambu / Brinjal Curry / Pakki style / Muslim Style Brinjal Curry / Bai Style / Muslim Bhai Style Yenna Kathrikkai / Eggplant / Brinjal Kotsu / Gothsu / Brinjal Gravy / Sesame Brinjal Gravy / Nalennai Kuzhambu / Nallennai

Mullangi Sambar

| |

Mullangi ~ White Radish has a strong pungent smell which makes it an unwanted guest in many homes. Though it smells awful, it is still under my weekly menu because of its medicinal qualities. In simple words... it purifies blood, excellent for curing piles, constipation, urinary, liver and stomach disorders. If you are a fan of spicy Thai food... you will know what I am talking about. My mom makes this delicious sambar in 2 steps which involves pressure cooking, which does the work in less than 20 minutes if you have double pan pressure cooker, something like this.....

White Radish ~ Daikon ~ Chinese Radish ~Japanese Radish

Hindi ~ Mooli

Tamil, Telugu and Kannada ~ Mullangi

Murungakkai Poricha Kara Kuzhambu

| |

Kara Kuzhambhu is a staple in every tamilian home and takes quite a lot of forms just from region to region. This recipe is one such which is famous in Pondicherry, where they include coconut paste to the regular kara kuzhambhu. Typically they use dhal power(just regular sambar powder) with single or multiple veggies, tempered with coconut grating or paste, which makes it a form of Poricha kuzhambu.

My recipe is slightly different, i skipped the sambar powder part and included regular all purpose Kuzhambhu Milagai Podi instead with drumsticks.
