Beans - Potato Curry

|

Description

Green bean is a high protien food. For curry, bean must be cooked with some other vegetables. It goes well with potato. This dish by itself can accompany with steaming hot rice, warm roti, pittu, string hoppers, bread, thosai & etc

Ingredients
1 T

Gingelly oil

Mustard seeds

Funnel seeds (perumjeeragam)

10 nos

Small onions (cut lengthwise)

6 nos

Green chili (slit open)

½ no

Garlic (crushed)

6 nos

Curry leaves

2 nos

Tomato (chopped)

3 nos

Potatoes (peeled & cut)

100 g

Green beans (chopped)

100 ml

Low fat coconut milk

1 T

Meat curry powder

1 tsp

Chilli powder

¼ tsp

Black pepper powder

1 pinch

Cumin seed powder

Salt for taste

Instructions

Heat oil & slightly toast mustard, & fennel seeds. Fry chopped onion till the raw smell goes away. Then saute green chillies, tomato, garlic paste & curry leaves. Add meat curry powder, chilli powder & pepper powder and sauté for a min in low flame. Add potato cubes and pour water till it covers them. Add beans when potato is half cooked.

Add coconut milk & bring it to boil when potato & beans are cooked well. Add cumin seed powder & salt and reduce the flame to low once the curry starts boiling. Cook till the curry thickens as shown in the picture.

Notes

Lime can be added instead of tomato.

These thick curries may used as fillings when toasting sandwiches.

Can reduce the amount of garlic for you taste. At home mom uses one whole garlic for a curry as we eat curries with rice not rice with curries.

Soya Chunk/Meat Curry

Potato Curry

Dhal Curry

Kadalai Curry

Hiiii there, Its a powder

Hiiii there,

Its a powder we make for curries. So you do not need to be bothered to find all those spices to add in curries. I get frm SL. Have seen mom making it. But wanna make sure the exact amt of spices she uses. I always think i shld ask her but just forget.

But you can use normal chilli powder too. Add some pepper, cumin seed powder and any masala powder. It works...Pls let me know how it turns if you are trying it.

Hi Manoo, Are u using

Hi Manoo,
Are u using fresh cocont milk or canned for recipes? Let me know. I want to try this. Thanks.
kavi.

hiiii Kavi, Any form of

hiiii Kavi,

Any form of coconut milk is fine. Milk made with coconut milk powder, or canned coconut. I stick with coconut milk cans as its easy for students no...  Btw, we Sri lankans do not grind and add coconut directly to curries. We add some water to grated coconut, blend or squeeze, filter and use for curries. Looking forward to hear your feedback :):):)
