wow wat a response....mullai we speant exactly 12000 rupees and we went in our own car so the whole cost from chennai was up to 18000 rupees...we went thro thekkadi...from thekkadi it was about 4 hours travel in hills..it was awesome experiance there was falls on the way in the mountain...superb scenery .....As jeyalakshmi mam said it was for 5 people in the boat.....but there r double deck boats also if it is a big family they can offered it...we checked in by 11am and next day by 9am we were droped in our hotelDivya Mubarak

jeyalakshmi the cost must be around 10,000 only i think coz when v went 3 yrs back also around this amt only, maybe a few bugs more than that now.

Mullai that one day at boat house cost alone is 10k. other than that there r guest houses at the shore. also, b4 starting to kumarakom itself in any city better buy whatever u need for the traveling there coz there they dont have many shops inside and if u need soemthing u need to travel long once u r at kumarakom.

For our honeymoon, v went to Kumarakom only 3 yrs back Divs. It was really a very pleasant experience. the main attraction there is boating and nice fresh sea food. other than boat house, some local boatman r there to take us for boating just around the backwaters according to the money v pay, but its too meagre actually. i dont think therez any other place very nearest to c. u may club some other places at kerala along with kumarakom so that u have a nice greenery tour with ur family.

ppl over there use boats only for transport as v use in chennai bikes and cars coz that area is full of backwaters, nice to c them moving about like that. a totally different experience overall. if u want to rest in a peaceful environment, u should definitely go to kumarakom, its the apt place. in many films, they show this place, such wonderful serene enviornment.

if u take individual small boats inside the forest area, u could c very rare birds there wandering.  they say many birds from other countries migrate to this area.

Divya, our family also went to Kumarakkom last summer. It was awesome!! Out of all the Kerala places (Cochin, Munaar, Thekkadi, Kumarakom) that we visited, we liked Munnar and Kumarakkom the best. I saw your pics and orkut and reminded of our trip :-)

Kumarakom boat - 1 night stay (checked in 12pm and check out next day morning 9 am) for 5 ppl (2 bedrooms each with attached bathroom) costed us 10,000 Rs with food (lunch, dinner and breakfast) and it was very relaxing being in the boat..veedu maathriyae irukum..dining place, kitchen elaam..antha kaathu, thani, scenary elaam supera irunthathu. I can send some pics if you like.

Hi Girls, can you also post a rough budget on a trip like this for a family of four. Boat rental details, other attractions close by... Divya good post and thanks for letting us know about this great destination.
