Hi all this is the recipe of Milagu Kuzhambu an authetic south Indian curry made with pepper and tamarind .This is my mom's version.I love this with white rice and Toor dal thuvaiyal[thick chutney]. Hope u will enjoy this recipe.
|2 T||Tamarid paste[adjust according to the quantity u r making]|
|1 tbsp||Urad dal|
|½ T||Pepper corns[adjust as perpreference]|
|4||Dry red chillies[adjust as per preference]|
|Few cury leaves|
|1 tsp||Mustard seeds, cumin and fenugreek|
|Few curry leaves|
|Handfull sundaikkai vathal[optional]|
1.Dilute the tamarind paste with 2 cups of water and keep it aside.
2.Fry all the content from ingredient 2 till golden brown and grind it coarsely and keep it aside.
3.Take a pan add gingely oil, then add mustard cumin and fenugreek, once when mustard splutters add curry leaves and sundaikkai vathal[optional] and hing.
4.Now add onions..u can use shallots which is best preferred for this dish.I dint have so i ve used normal big sized onion.
5.saute the onion with some turmeric and pour the tamarind juice to it and when the tamarind juice boils well add the ground powder and salt and mix well.
6 After a few minutes u will find the curry to be thick with oil seperated .
Serve hot with white rice, fried pappads and toor dal thuvaiyal.
