Hair Fall remedy

Posted by abhimuthu

Many of us are experiencing hair fall, we may think it is because of shampoo, dyes, or other external factors like climate etc but the major factor is food intake and lack of nutrition that the hair needs. I experienced severe hair fall and the only thing which works for me is curry leaves. I does wonders. If you consume 8-10 stalks of curry leaves daily for 20 days, hair fall will be totally stopped by the end of 20 days then you can reduce the intake gradually to 3 stalks a day just to make sure you get enough nutrients. I make a paste with water in blender. the taste is not compelling but the the benefits outweigh the taste.

The question we all have is curry leaf is very expensive and how do we get here in US.

In  any Indian store half pound curry leaf is 7.50 dollars. you get a lot and you can use it for more than a week.

So technically it costs less than a dollar per day for the 10 stalks which is worth spending.

Benefits of curry leaves:

Regular intake if curry leaves will stop hair fall and the hair root becomes stronger and the new hair grows black and thick, prevents premature greying, Reduces bad cholestrol and dissolves fat and aids weight loss, Certain ayurvedic research says that curry leaves have some role in controlling non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus.

Let me know if you have any questions. But for sure for people experiencing hair fall curry leaves works wonders. I have experienced it and hope it will be useful for atleast one person reading this.

hi kavi

Can we shampoo our hair after applying fenugreek sprouts paste on hair?

For how long should we keep the paste applied on hair, before we wash off?

Is it to be applied only on scalp or the whole hair?

Thanks,

Hi Radhika,No need to wash

Hi Radhika,
No need to wash with shampoo....u know fenugreek is a good cleanser, it helps to remove dandruff too.
1/2 an hour to 1 hour--soaking time.
Applying on scalp is important, if u have extra amount u can apply on the hair.

Hi Abhimuthu & kavi... I am

Hi Abhimuthu & kavi...
I am very new to this site and got here while surfing on the net... looking for some tips! Very great & useful tips ...(just in time for me, as I am experiencing a whole lot of hair fall recently in the last 2-3 months...)

I noticed a lot of dandruff on my head and tried hard to control that first, all the while worrying abuot the extreme hair fall I had/have. Will definitly try your tips... Can I ask/clarify a few things please?!

1. I have to take 40 leaves per day for the first 20 days - Can I make curry powder and take it 2 tsps along with rice, instead?! (will try to drink it fresh like you suggested, but if I can't ...Can I try the powder version?!

I had nice (not too thick) straight hair... recently (after my INdia trip in summer) my hair started falling too much... everyday so much would come off and I got scared even to comb my hair.. then when I take head bath, again it's 3-4 times than the usual fall. Now I have after 2-3 months of it happenening, very less hair left out on my scalp.

My other question to you Abhi, this currey leaves treatment would make the hair root stronger and save it from falling more...Which is GREAT! But will I be getting new hairs coming out of scalp too... please say YES, I really want some new hair to grow in my head only then I will look like my usual.. (i'm 36 yrs old, btw!)

2. This is for Kavi - Kavi after you apply the ground paste of fenugreek sprouts, Do I use shampoo to wash the hair OR just wash it off with only water?! Please do reply.

Also, for the face treatment, Do I have to take the fenugreek paste daily?! Is it soaked fenugreek seeds or fenugreek sprouts?!

Once again Thanks a lot to you both, for these wonderful nice tips...

Awaiting your reply - Thanks in advance.
-Girija

Girija, don't use

Girija, don't use shampoo......for face any kind of fenugreek paste should be Ok.

I'm not getting curry leaves now a  days in my place, so i started to eat one handfull of raw, ready to eat spinach leaves everyday(washed and packed)...yes it's equally good ....u can get it in salad section.

Girija, Curry leaves is the

Girija,

Curry leaves is the best treatment that worked for me. Regarding the powder version of curry leaves drying and powdering curry leaves loses some volatile vitamins like B vitamins reducing the benefit of the curry leaves. But dry curry leaf powder will have 60% benefit of not 100%. If you can get fresh curry leaves I would suggest to go for that opton for faster results. Yes in 20 days I was able to see the real change in my hair fall. Hair fall totally stopped and the new hairs grew thicker and stronger, hair roots become healthy. You can also take a multivitamin supplement along with the curry leaf treatment for 3 months. Good luck.

Hope this helps. Also check your haemoglobin content and thyroid since these may be the causes of hairfall as well.

Thanks a lot Abhi and Kavi

Thanks a lot Abhi and Kavi for your prompt replies... I really appreciate it.

Also thanks for your promising words (about getting new hair...) I guess, here after I won't have the problem of my curry leaves getting wasted in my house...lols :-)

Abhi, when I mentioned powder, I did not mean dry curry leaves powder, instead I was refering to the curry leaves powder/Thuvaiyal using the fresh curry leaves (after saute it slightly with oil, of course for thuvaiyal!).

Is that OK? OR Will I loose the vitamins/advantage which I should be getting it from the fresh leaves... Answer me when you have a minute. But for tomorrow/may be will start from today itself (:-)), I am going with the fresh ones.

Thank you so much once again...

Girija, Yes you can eat

Girija,

Yes you can eat thuvaiyal since it is prepared using fresh leaves as an alternative. Make sure you do not saute too much and use less oil. Choose the option convenient for your taste buds.

Hope this helps. Thanks and good luck.

Abhimuthu I'm very thankful for your pleasant input for haircare. However, I live near Devon Ave. in Chicago so I can get these leaves easily one question, I didn't understand from the other comments but how many leaves a day would I consume for a month. 40/day for a month??? also can I just eat them raw???

Ashish, Thank you for your

Ashish,

Thank you for your comment. Yes you should consume 40 raw leaves per day for a month for severe hairfall for fast results. Then you can gradually reduce depending on your hairfall.

GRind in a blender adding water to a smooth paste and drink like juice. Hope this helps. Thank you.

hi abhimuthu, im trying out

hi abhimuthu,

im trying out ur recipe for hairfall. Just a ques for you, u said 10 stalks per day is it? Because over here my one stalk has like bout.. 20 leaves? thats pretty alot of leaves isn't it? ive tried once drinking it and i almost puke! hahah but nevertheless im going to take it if it reali can solve my hair problem. can u estimate how many leaves u took? its really like a bunch of it? thanks in advance!

Roger, I think your stalks

Roger,

I think your stalks are big stalks. Approximately I took 40 leaves initially for severe hairfall for a month. Then gradually you can decrease the quantity based on the intensity of hairfall. Again for me it worked wonders. Let me know if you have any more questions.

Hi Abhimuthu, Thanks for

Hi Abhimuthu,

Thanks for taking up this topic and giving us great remedy for hair fall.... just a quick question.... do you think curry leaves will take care of stress related thining of hair or even due to heredity?

Thanks in advance for your help with this..

Racheal, I dont think curry

Racheal,

I dont think curry leaves will prevent hair fall from stress; But most of us of unaware of the reason for hair fall and unable to judge if it is due to stress or nutritional defects and mostly we think it is due to stress. But frankly speaking I dont believe hair fall is predominantly caused due to stress. In my experience even if I was stressed and whenever I ate curry leaves my hair stopped falling considerably.

Regarding hereditary hair fall, curry leaves does make the hair root stronger and healthier, reseachers say that it also turns gray hair to black. So for people experiencing hereditary hair fall it will certainly help to strenghthen the root and prevent from becoming bald.

Hope this helps!

Hi Abhi, Now curry leaves

Hi Abhi,

Now curry leaves is totally banned in US and I am not able to get it anywhere. Could you tell me some other remedy?

Suganya, Sorry for late

Suganya,

Sorry for late reply, I did not see your message. Curry leaves is not totally banned in US. The shipments are banned from Hawaii only due to some infection. But curry leaves are still coming to Indian stores from Florida. I am in NJ and got 1/2 pound this WE. It is 10 dollars now(versus 7 dollars) before. If you have dry curry leaves make curry leaf powder and eat this as an alternative. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions.

do i have to consume the

do i have to consume the paste of curry leaves directly(to stop hair fall) or can i mix it with buttermilk and have it? Pls let me know. I have plans to straighten my hair.

I have heard that there will be a lot of hair fall because of this. Do u think curry leaves can be a solution to such a problem

Anitababu, The point is

Anitababu,

The point is curry leaves should enter the body, so you can consume it the way you like based on your taste preference (w/wo buttermilk, paste form etc).

Curry leaves definetely helps to stop hair fall if hair is falling due to lack of nutrients in the body. So if you know for sure the hair is falling due to straitening of hair, then curry leaves is not the solution. In other words if your hair is falling before straigtening as well then it is a good idea to consume curry leaves.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

My thanks to all members

My thanks to all members for sharing such great tips. Hair fall is normal but if the same gets extreme, better visit your family physician and get your thyroid checked. This is one early symptom for Hyper or Hypo Thyroidism.

Mullai, Thanks for

Mullai,

Thanks for mentioning thyroid problem. I would also like to add that hair fall is also  caused due to anaemia(lack of iron/haemoglobin) content in the blood. Here is some visual checklist for anaemia:

If your open your lower eyelid and it is pale yellow or pale orange

If you have the tendency to eat uncooked raw rice(arisi), vibhoodhi, smell/powder chalk, like the flavour of sunnaambhu(lime stone) then you are definitely anaemic.

If this is the case, take prescription iron tables, curry leaves also has iron but it is also better to take a subscription for faster recovery. Always check with your doctor to make sure.

Hi abhi, i was thinking to

Hi abhi, i was thinking to post about curry leaves, i had hair loss 6 months back severly...my mom asked me to take curry leaves chutney...but in US it's impossible to take chutney everyday and feel bore to make chutney everyday....and i started to consume like kariveppilai mour.....with 2 stalks of curryleaves,
1/4 cup of curd,
1/2 cup of water,
salt,
asafoetida(optional).
Grind in blender till curry leaves mixes with curd and become green. consume immediately...very tasty(not like kashayam) and healthy....it stops hair fall like u said.

And one more tip...i used leftover fenugreek sprouts for my hair. I surprised,it really works for my hair. Just grind 4 days old fenugreek sprouts and apply on hair for 1 hr and wash...usually i used overnight soaked fenugreek seeds for my hair...but it sometimes sticks on my hair....but sprouts doesn't stick. Thanks...kavi.

Hi , u have mentioned about

Hi , u have mentioned about fenugreek sprouts. Can u tell me how to sprout it and how much should I use per day?

Refer this link for making

Refer this link for making sprouts. I have also pasted the text below (posted by Sugan). After sprouting by following this method, grind it in blender to a smooth paste. The quantity depends of the length and thinkness of you hair. So you have to experiment with a hand full first time and increase/decrease based on the your first trail. hope this helps

Making sprouts:

Soak methi seeds for 6 hrs. Drain all the water and tie it tight in a cloth. Keep wetting  it with cold water and drain it completely, every 8 hrs. It sprouted after 5 days.  I got a tips about sprouting from my friend Kaviarun from our site. Thanks to her. Share the sprouting methods, if any.

Kavi, Thank you for your

Kavi,

Thank you for your suggestions. I am sure our readers will be benefited.

In my experience, I have noticed that for the first 20 days if you have severe hair fall, you have to take atleast 10 stalks per day continuosly. Then after that for maintenance you can take 4 stalks daily as a maintenance. But your idea to take with butter milk is good and tasty like our mour.

Fenugreek sprouts.. very good kavi, I sprouted fenugreek from Sugan's recipe and I have a cup leftover in fridge and I was thinking what to do.. So this fenugreek sprouts makes the hair shiny(like a conditioner) or it stops hair fall? Let me know. thanks again will try and let you know Kavi.

Love, Abhi.

Hi Abhi, fenugreek sprouts

Hi Abhi, fenugreek sprouts helps to stop hair fall and conditioning like fenugreek seeds....the only differnce is sprouts doesn't sticks on my hair.....it makes hair strong .....to remove dandruff u can use this sprouts or seeds....really hepls to get thick hair...so curryleaves for intake and fenugreek for appying on my hair....if u have lots of curryleaves u can grind with seeds and apply on hair....

fenugreek seed & egg

fenugreek seeds & curryleaves

fenugreek seeds & sour curd (for this u've to wash with 2 tsp shampoo)

fenugreek seeds & sembaruthi leaves and flowers

so i don't miss fenugreek every week....more than seeds last 2 months i'm using sprouts....

will meet later...bye...kavi.

hi abhimuthu, thank

hi abhimuthu,
thank you so much for such a wonderful post...i just want to ask you something..can we soak it overnight ,grind the next day and eat...

Sujatha, Thank you Sujatha.

Sujatha,

Thank you Sujatha. It is not required to soak the curry leaves, it is not as hard a dhal or pulses. By soaking also you lose vitamins. Take few stalks of fresh curry leaves and grind it in a blender with some water just enough to grind the leaves (juicy consistency). It really works for hairfall.

Hope this helps. Good luck.
