Easy Ways For Shinny Skin & Losing Weight

Posted by Busy Bee

I was not that keen on beauty tips. But, when I left home I found myself difficult to see dried skin & dull face as we only eat fried rice or burgers which are available here. In fact we never eat vegetables. But at home I didn’t face such problem as I used to nutritious food. Moreover, fresh air & water gave healthy & shinny skin.

I noticed my mom's nails look like clear crystal. She only applies "Olive Oil" immediately after cooking/washing cloths, dishes, etc. I tried it & now my nails are also looking good .If you having long nails then just put few drops inside them too. Your nails will also look like crystal. She also applies olive oil to face, hands and legs immediately when she gets up. Being honest her skin is really healthier & shinier than mine. Using baby soap is also good for skin. You would see a shining bright face in a few months time.

Especially, for students-Staying up for long time is no use at all. If you rest for 6 hours, then u can work more effectively. Mind & eyes need rest. I used to stay up late nights & study for hours. Now, I tried to sleep early & study only for 2 or 3 hours, and I feel like I am doing much work in very few hours than staying up for hours

Drink milk - a lot. You can even eat chocolate & eggs. Hormones problems give pimples. Dirt too. Just wash your face with warm water and wipe thoroughly with white cotton. You can use cleansing milk to clean your face/ facial cleanser to wash your face before going to bed. Drink plenty of water. Drink water and eat carrot or salad whenever you feel hungry. STOP EATING WHEN U R WATCHING TV. That is the only thing is difficult to do. (Even I can’t do that. So eating carrots)

Only stop taking rice or carbonated drinks, you won’t ever put on weight. You can eat even burgers, chips, ice-creams, chocolates, etc. One dietitian told me that I am not putting weight for taking all high calorie food only for not taking rice & carbonated drinks. But, don’t eat them a lot every day. I do eat all kind of things but only in little amount.

Forget all those gym, yoga, etc. They are the best, I agree. But you can just walk for 15 mins at least to be healthy. Baratha Natiya is the best exercise. But, you should learn from a proper guru. Don’t do the same work outs at same time. Change it often. Swim one day, walk 3 days, dance or do yoga 3 days. Do work out whenever you feel to do. It does not mean that you should work continuously either in the morning or evening. You can do as your wish, one day in the morning and the other day in the evening. Trust me, you wont feel bored if you do work out as I stated. After a month or two, change the schedule.

Please let me know your comments. I would be glad even if one person could get something from this forum

Hi, Busy bee Recently there

Hi, Busy bee

Recently there was an article in the paper which says that we should not avoid rice totally as it would lead to depression, so don't avoid rice completely.

Hiiii Jacqline, Thank you

Hiiii Jacqline,

Thank you very much for you concern... I will keep it in mind.

At home we eat curries with rice not rice with curry. Mom put only 2 cups of rice for 8 ppl. Odd no?

I take all high calories food items such as dairy products eggs, chocolates (200g bar a day - trust me) & cakes... So i made a point of not taking rice. I do take rice but once in awhile as fried rice or very less (5Table sp) for curries. I usually stick with bread, parotha & noodles (i dont use the sachet)

I eat a plateful of curries. Once I was eating rice for a month with friends & i started sleeping lot, always felt heavy also put on weight. Then i changed to my old routine with less rice. We only get white rice / basmathi rice here. Thats not good for health right... The red raw rice or proboiled rice is good but we dont get here.

However, thanks again yaar.

Manoo, Do u really think

Manoo, Do u really think 200g bar of chocolate is better than a cup of rice/day? Have you compared the nutritional facts? The sugar, sodium, mono sodium gulmanate etc..etc..in chocolate. rice has plain carbohydrates but not the unhealthy extras which is in chocolate, choco contains cocoa and it increases feminine hormonal levels than normal which results in heavy periods, pimples, acne to name a few..rice is still a staple food in japan, china, india, thailand, vietnam, korea ,south america which is consumed by millions everyday and if eaten the right quantity ,the life span and health will be good as the japanese,chinese...As you have said, brown or red rice has the only additional good thing than the white one- fiber.. you don't have to eat brown rice if you eat raisins, prunes, bananas, apples ,a few every week. Cakes also have much sugar and the main ingredient is all purpose flour which is nothing but indian maida, in which all the bran and endogerm is removed and it has nothing but plain carbohydrates just like rice. So no matter how many rotis/cakes you eat instead of rice, you are not getting any good needed vitamins/minerals from them. chocolate and cakes do more bad than good if eaten everyday , it has been put under reasearch for many years and thats why they are called 'junk'. Good luck and consider eating whole wheat rotis with veg/non veg curries, stir fry with a fistful of cooked rice as side, sandwiches etc for lunch.. i understand cooking everyday for college goers is not possible and so they eat more junk...As much as college-goers work hard, working mothers do atleast four times of work than them ...with small kids, husband, dirty home ,dishes, cooking, cleaning to take care of...if you practice time management now and start cooking fresh food everyday, I'm sure it'll help u later in u'r lufe when you become a working mother... I became a working mother in my very early twenties and still manage to cook my own food everyday..and would like to set an good example for my kid by eating junk very occasioanally and also for my healthy body in later part of my life..
- good luck.

Calories wise its the same.

Calories wise its the same. Obviously if you take chocolate, you wont feel heavy as you feel when you take rice. Wont feel lazy.Except chocolates got some extracts.

I just gave explanation for not taking rice. Reducing rice is better as we eat fattening food (Thats Indian & Sri Lankan crusine - Oil / Ghee / Curries / Fries this & tat).

I also know that they are junk food. But due to my studies, projects & sa welfare officer post i need more energy... I swim 1km a day - I am so used to have a bar before swimming. Tats how I was trained when I was swimming for (3-4)hrs in the sea. Although I dont swim tat long, i still take half a bar b4 jumping into the pool. I always think I am not going to take chocolates or reduce the amount. but then hunger  / tiredness makes me consume it...

The veges we get in those stores are dried veges. Its the most rural area in m'sia. We just eat whats available in the cafe, but we make sure taking multi-vitamin tablet & vitamin - E for hair as a specialist advised to take it.  (he is a child & women care sp - our family friend)...

Cooking is impossible. i dont mind cooking if i get fresh veges. Seeing those dried rotten veges i never feel to cook. i cook lot when we get good veges. But we get good veges once in a blue moon.

To buy a loaf of bread we need to travel up & down more than an hrs. To buy atta flour we need to travel 4 hrs if the train & bus come immediately when we are there. if not it take 6 hrs even. Room is not even 8x8 so we cant store anything. We have some fungus prob as the building is built on some palm estate. ants even eat the spices (only such wonder happens in our place) Thats our place.if its home we have enough space to put our stuff & be organized. its not gonna happen in hostel room.

As far as those junk foods keep me active & i do swim i dont need to worry abt putting on weight or getting disease.  Its not like i dont want to eat healthy food. its all we dont have a choice. when we get back home we can get back to our proper diet. Till then all hail junk food..

Anyways, Thanks a lot 4 ur concern. We all wanna live healthy. As I know my mom  washes clothes by hands, do lot of house work & her charity work. Yet she eats just a handful of rice with lot green veges. She is active (she is a heart patient from birth.) she got good skin. I would like to follow her as yea she is my role model... :-)

Glad to know that you are managing lot well. Good luck to you too...

Cheers

hai friends, I read all ur

hai friends, I read all ur suggestions ,good to follow..but my skin i dont know what type it is..when i have face wash i looks fresh and clear only for sometimes (half-an-hour)then it becomes dull.when i go out within few hours it becomes dull and dark ..is any remedy for that..if so please let me know... mano

hi all I was just going

hi all

I was just going thru this thread.so i thought i will share some info.
Once i read in a tamil magazine. In tamilnadu we see doctors advising diabetes patients to reduce eating rice and eat rotis. But guess what, in North India, doctors are advising them to eat rice and reduce eating rotis!!

the reason is very simple. we south indians are so obsessed with rice and so we eat more. we can't make fluffy pulkas so well like north indians so we may not like eating roti's. so obvisouly we wont eat much rotis.
but north indians are so obsessed with wheat and rotis, so they eat more rotis.
so the bottomline, weather it is roti or rice - we should eat in moderation.Actually both rice and chapathi have equal amount of carbs and calories. but we cant really measure rice while eating but ifits rotis, we eat 3 or 4 at the maximum.

also we can do one more thing. instead of putting how much ever we want on our plates, we can use a measuring cup or bowl to serve ourselves rice!! this works..trust me!

we should be focusing more on eating steamed vegetables, and we can eat chickpeas/rajma/lobia etc., on 3 - 4 days everyday , probably those days we can cut down rice.

once i was so thin, i did everything to put on weight, but then i went to hyderabad and lived for 2 years, and was addicted to the restuarant food. so became fat (gained abt 6kgs) in 2 yrs. but after i came to US, no chance for any hotel food..so lost some 3-4 kgs easily, now eating rice only 2 days in a week and staying fit even after delivery just before 6 months.ofcourse i am a strict vegetarian...and i made lot of modifications in the kitchen&cooking.
i hardly deep fry anything. i use shallowfry method or baking.
very occassionaly use potatoes even for making curries.
not buying sweets habitually.
using few drops of olive oil while doing seasonings.
having an early dinner.
i bought a stablity ball/exercise ball and doing some ab crunches,..and hey wow...it does wonders.. we can google out for learning some ab exercises with stability ball.

Hi Manoo, Thanks, Well will

Hi Manoo,

Thanks, Well will have to try this out, I just freak out on Rice...
Will have to cut down on Rice.

please dont spread wrong

please dont spread wrong message by saying stop eating rice, but can have burgers/ice creams/chips and we wont put on weight........ we can have rice(which is carbo)but the amout consumed is purely based on the individual's weight, metabolism and day to day physical activity. Carbohydrates provide our body with a steady supply of energy and it limits the amount of sugar turning and stroing as fat in our body. Carbohydrates will be turned into fat only if we dont burn them as a fuel for our physical activity.A good variety of complex carbo....such as wholegrain cereals, breads, pasta, rice....can be had and simple carbo...such as sweets, chocolates and fizzy drinks can be avoided.More over...carbo...any thing be it..rice/pasta/bread...makes us feel full.so one should keep control over their daily calorie intake and try to burn it, as extra calories settle down in the body as fat.

I just replied and again

I just replied and again someone msging on eating rice. Its not my advice. Its dietitians'. They cant be wrong I suppose. Thats what they said, we can have burgers... Many tried and it worked. And I am sorry I cant help if you feel its wrong...

Hey, i read ur advise and

Hey, i read ur advise and it has worked gradually, i took my daughter to yoga and everyone has commented on her glowing skin, even anukundu brother comened on my skin.
Thanks for the advise
Gnana and Anukundu

It was jus my opinion and i

It was jus my opinion and i dont need any help in this regard dear. by the way...thanks a lot for the brilliant no rice, have chips and loose weight idea.

Hi Manoo, What are your

Hi Manoo,

What are your thoughts when it comes to facial bleach. Ppl here use Jolen brand facial bleach. It helps to get rid of the tan and lightens hair so it makes the skin look brighter. I tried it once I like it. But I wonder how much damage it can cause the skin. It is a chemical afterall..... Some use Fem brand too.

Does anyone have any idea if this is bad for the skin in the long run??

Please advise.

Sharmilla

To be honest, I have not

To be honest, I have not been to any beauty parlour in my life (Ok i have been to check how they do there but never tried for myself...) Of course its good to do once a month as ur skin would look better. I have heard abt Jolen brand facial bleach. In fact, no one complained abt it as its good I heard. But, I never tried as I am not keen on it.

Mom adds Besan flour, Moong dal flour, Turmeric in same amount and use it instead of soap. She does not have any mark or hair on face. Also she used olive oil. I would say apply olive oil before an hour or two before you getting dress up. Let it be. Then, wash face in an hr or two with mild soap, apply skin colour foundation or Cien skin care cream (with Vit - E & Jojoba oil) and do apply whatelse you wanna apply.

Best solution is exercising (yoga too). You will get shinny face. Facial bleach is not necessary then. I am really sorry as I could not help you lot as I do exercise although the food is not tat good here. Also apply olive oil. Those two still keeping my skin softer & shinning.

About stop eating rice

About stop eating rice suggestion, I am compelled to say that , carbohydrate is very very essential for health and for energy, calories, not to mention, for mothers to run behind their kids all day..Putting on weight entirely depends on quantity of rice you eat ,its not just because you eat rice. Just limit the quantity. Science says that the unused or unburnt calories stay in your body as fat.Burnt calories donot stay in your body at all. A healthy woman needs 2000 calories per day. If you eat more rice and increase your calorie intake ,then you sure will put on weight. Best advice is to consult a doctor and tell him about your food habits.

Yea you are  right that we

Yea you are  right that we need carbohydrate. But, again if its from the pulungal rice (brown & white one) then its good. Dietitians say that 1200 calories enough for normal ppl nowadays. There are exceptional such as moms, ppl suffering with illness. Reducing the amount is a better solution I agree. But, our curries are so tempting and its hard to control for most of us. How many of us do proper exercises.  Anyways, whatever I have given is what i was told from dietitians & experiences. And also thanks for ur advice...

Hai Manoo Can you plz

Hai Manoo
Can you plz tell, which shampoo to use in US.. I had black hair in India... But after coming here my hair is turning brown... I am using Head and Shoulders... Please help

Sathu, as for me i would

Sathu, as for me i would prefer Pantene Daily Moisture Shampoo and Conditioner. Here, the water contains Lead content, so always wash ur hair in room temperature water. Do not take hot and long showers during winter, it dries the skin.  In US its winter season...so hair will becomes dry so that we need some moisture for our hair. As Manoo said, H&S is strong. So try using two weeks once so that u will not get dry scalp and dry dandruff and for the rest use Pantene. Just try a sample size pack ($1) and if you really love it..then proceed.

Also apply oil atleast 2 times a week. For me i'm using Keokarpin, it won't give the oily look on hair and sultry look on our face...Just massage on ur scalp and the ends to avoid split hairs. I believe after using this oil my hair growth is really fast, i found it when i highlighted my hair...So i'm recommending to all my family members and friends they're using it and it really helps for all. But results may vary.

Also take manoo home remedy advice. Ok paa...take care of ur hair.

Thank you for sharing your

Thank you for sharing your tips.. :D:D:D Btw, wat is that keokarpin oil. Is it indian made one. Or American. Anyways, I use olive oil only :|:|:| easy to apply to hair and face :D:D Thank you very much again

Manoo, Its Indian make. I'm

Manoo, Its Indian make. I'm just using it for 2 and 1/2 years, it really works great for me. Nowadays i'm trimming my hair once in 45 days due to the fast growth...before this oil, 3 months once hair cut or if i found split hairs... Try if could able to find this oil,  here you go:

http://www.indiaplaza.com/beautycare/pd.aspx?sku=301675

Not only applying oil would work, our daily nutritions should be balanced.

For face, just using red sandal to maintain the color complexion, everyevening Apricot cream cleanser or Aveeno Skin brightening scrub. Thats works great for me.

Thank you. Will find it out

Thank you. Will find it out and check.Yet, I cant let it long as I need to cut my hair as we work with machines. Will try during vacation. Thank you so much for the link again

Hi, I am sorry as I am not

Hi,

I am sorry as I am not able to help you. I am not living in US. However, I used to use johnson's baby shampoo & lo'real (Made in france) back home. Some times amma forced to apply sekatkai. Mom got lot hair coz of baby shampoo & sekatkai btw.

After coming here, I am using Head & Shoulders only. We get made in Thailand or Indonesian one here. So, I am sticking with head & shoulders thai made. I use refreshing menthol or the one for dry & itchy one. But you must follow something before taking shower. Apply oil and let it be for a couple of hour and shower (at least one hr). Trust me you get shinny black hair after showering...

Hair of course falls coz of not eating green leaves. But, hair stays black still. Ppl say H&S is strong and not good for hair. But, i personally feel its fine as other shampoo's drying up my hair or makes itchy...Also I am not getting dandruff coz of H&S.

I bought all brand small bottles, tried & found which suits my hair. You can try it too and find out which one suits your hair.

If possible you can do these following things that i tried back home.

Make moong dal powder. Not that painful than washing sekatkai. Pour warm water & apply

Make sekatkai powder, pour boiling water, let it be for awhile & apply.

Grind Shoe flower leaves with water and apply as shampoo (Its hard to make it each and every time but the best method)

Put 3 - 5 limes in little bit of coconut milk (like 30 ml - of course the fresh one only) & apply coconut milk then scrub with lime well. Hair looks so shinny after showering.

Sorry its a long reply.. Yet, Hope it helps you..

Good Luck

Hey Manoo, Thanks for the

Hey Manoo,

Thanks for the info & pics.  Wil give a try on this if its available here.

No probs.

No probs.

Hi Manoo...

Can u pls tel me any baby soap u hav tried which r available here... I used Sparsh in India but am not finding it here. So if u cud suggest any brand its gr8!! Thanks

I am using this... I found

I am using this... I found too many johnsons, johnson & johnson  brands... I tried few the american one is the worst. The soap itself become like a dried rock in 5 or 6 days....

Here you go for the one iam using. I am sorry as i really dont know if its available here as i get soaps frm SL only...  Its a bit expensive. If other soaps 25Rs means this is 125..

Manoo, its very nice that

Manoo, its very nice that you have posted the pics of the soap which u're using. Appreciated. But, at the same time u're not supposed to say that American one is the worst. May be it doesn't suits ur skin type/due to SL/Malaysia's weather condition. You shouldn't  tell or judge without knowing anything. No offense meant.

Hi hi hi, I clearly

Hi hi hi, I clearly mentioned tat the soap turns into very dried state as rock. Didnt mention tat does not suit my skin. Pls read properly before advising. No offense meant. Its good you pointed out. But, I KNEW well tat the soap become dry as i checked many times to make sure if the soap becomes dry or the weather makes it dry. I dont need to be against american soaps for god sake. I just told what i experienced. Again pls read properly before commenting / advising. Thank you...

See Manoo, i don't want to

See Manoo, i don't want to make this as an issue that spoils the beauty of the website. Just avoid commenting the brands like...worst. Thats it. You read my message properly, i used slash to mention Weather and Skin type which means it is applicable to both.

I dont want to make an

I dont want to make an issue either. Again, I didnt mean to say anything against any brand. Someone should understand tat I just said what i experienced. No one will just write something without knowing abt it. You should know tat well.

Btw, wonder how you could conclude that I have not been to US & only been to M'sia/SL. I dont want to continue this argument. Kindly say tat I should not say something than saying "dont say without knowing anything..." Thats what I need :):):) And dont say something like ordering to me or any pls. You would know if you go thru ur reply again.

hi again...to have a clear

hi again...to have a clear skin free of black pores...u can apply egg white every morning after u wake up....jus leave it until it dries and wash ur face....this also leaves the skin tight and fresh...and removes dirt from skin too....try it !!

Eswari, Forgot to mention

Eswari,
Forgot to mention yesterday... Get some thick gravy, keep it as sandwich filling, toast in sandwich toaster without butter and have every 3 hours if you feel hungry. You cant have more than a toast at once. Something there when toasting. You feel filling with one sandwich. If you are eating just bread & curry, you can eat more than 3 - 4 slices. So, try it. Sry just forgot to include.
Good Luck

haimanoo,can u give tips

haimanoo, can u give tips for dry skin in winter because i amin banglore

hiii White, Iam really

hiii White, Iam really sorry as I do not know abt banglore weather.

Honestly saying that I only apply olive oil (musa brand), let it dry for 5 mins & wear clothes in cold season. Hot season, I stick with baby lotion (Johnson & Johnson). Olive oil will just dry in 5 mins and keep your skin soft for almost 8 hrs. If you feel uncomfy for oil, just slightly wipe it after 5 mins.

All my friends spend hours for make up if we have any functions or dinners. I only apply olive oil as usual for hands & legs. And Cien skin care cream (with Vit - E & Jojoba oil) for face and neck, eyetex & lipstick only. No one will believe if I say tat I didnt even use foundation or any base or any other cosmetic.

Trust me, it will be bit annoying in the beginning, but after you see your hands so soft & shinny... You will hail olive oil :):):) Pls let me kno if it works...

Good Luck

Manoo

P.S:- Something different in the musa bottle and tin although they say both the same. I always stick with tin. No idea abt other brands...

hiii Eswari,

yea i kno its hard to stop... Tats why I told; just take rice every other day. When you get used to that then stop having rice for 2 days & have the other day. You can avoid in this method. Dont stop rice completely. I do take rice sometimes. If i see "nasi lemak" who cares about putting on weight... I can eat it for all three meals continuously... Do some work out too whenever possible. I wont say eat boiled veges.... I nvr tried and i cant also. Its just few simple ways prevent frm putting on weight.

Good Luck
