Description
Sothi is made of coconut milk. Its a special side dish for string hoppers. It can be taken with puttu as well. String hoppers & sothi is a main meal for people who fall sick. There are two main types of sothi - Ulli milaku (garlic-pepper) sothi and mangal (tumeric) sothi. Lime or tomato can be added for mangal sothi whereas tamarind is added for ulli-milaku sothi.

| ½ tsp | Gingelly oil |
| 1 pinch | Fennel seeds (perum serakam) |
| 6 nos | Fennugreek seeds |
| 10 nos | Small onion (cut lengthwise) |
| 5 nos | Green chilli (slit open) |
| 6 nos | Curry leaves |
| 1 no | Medium size tomato (cut lengthwise) |
| 3 nos | Hard boiled eggs |
| 1 no | Boiled potato (peeled & cubed) |
| 1 pinch | Cumin seed powder |
| 2 pinch | Turmeric powder |
| 50 ml | Low fat coconut milk |
| 4 T | Water (approx) |
Instructions
Heat oil & slightly saute fennel seeds and fenugreek seeds. Add onion when they are slightly toasted & saute in low flame for 15 sec. Add coconut milk, water, green chilli, tomato curry leaves, cubed potatoes, turmeric powder, salt & eggs. Bring it to boil with medium flame & add cumin seed powder. When the sothi starts boiling, stir continuously in high flame for 3 - 4 mins.

Notes
Eggs & Potato can be boiled together for ease. If not just add some water and boil potato after sauteing onion. Then add coconut milk & ect and continue.
You can add lime as well instead of tomato.
Put cuts on the eggs so it will absorb sothi.
Sometimes we add prawn's head (irral thalai). For this, afer sauteing onions you need to pour very little water and boil it first. Then add coconut & rest and continue.

You can add mango as well. Cut them into big thin pieces & add with coconut milk. You no need to add tomato or lime if you are adding mango.
