Mullai,
Western Union is fast, money gets transferred in a minute but they take 2 dollars off the exchange rate and is considered expensive.
www.rapidremitsvc.com - this is good. The money gets transferred in 3 days they charge 7 dollars for one transaction and I have used their service many times. Usually the initial limit is 5000 dollars for one transaction.
It is reliable, economical and convenient.
http://www.remit2india.com - The registration process takes time(verfification -10-20 days). But once registered, they charge 10 dollars for 10,000 dollars and based on your credit with them(that is how often you use their sevice, they increase the limit). If you dont have NRI account this is the best.
State Bank NRI is most secure and it takes 3-4 days to get transferrred . No cost for transfer. Thsi is the best NRI banking.
Citibank NRI account is good but citibank it not available in all the places in India. Only Chennai, Bangalore has branches. But to tranfer from chennai to local bank it takes 3 more days. I dont like citi since their domestic and international banking is not integrated. So if I have to deposit money more than 10,000 dollars I have to go the the citi branch in US and give the check. Cant do online and their customer service folks in India, dont have any answers to your questions.
Depending on your convenience choose any of the above.
