Simple homestyle beetroot fry. Beetroot Curry / Beetroot Fry / Beetroot Porial / Beet Poriyal
Potato when combined with broccoli makes a great dry curry. Would try any combo to include broccoli in my diet and this is my latest venture. This dish goes well with Sambhar or curd rice.
My latest farmers market pick was eye catching fresh purple roma beans. These sweet, mild and creamy texture beans are native to Italy and taste similar to our val or mochai. They are also called by the following names, Purple Roma Beans, Cranberry Beans and Borlotti Beans. Available fresh as well as in dried form. Dry beans needs to be soaked overnight. Fresh shelled beans are used here for sambhar and would be a great choice for people who love Mocahi / Val beans.
Kootu is a semi thick lentil gravy cooked with vegetables, often had with rice or roti. Here is simple kootu preparation using cabbage.
Turnip greens are very mild pleasantly bitter tasting greens. They are good when stir fried, sauteid or tossed up in hot soup. Substitute cooked turnip greens in virtually any dish you might use cooked spinach.
Healthy broth made with lentil and beets for hearty meals, a mouth licking tasty treat from Karnataka.
