Hi Priya,

I was just wondering where you purchase the India Gate basmati rice. How much is it? I have not been able to find it in any middle eastern store in walnut creek CA.

Thanks!

Mullai, In my experience, I

Mullai,
In my experience, I think Tilda has the best taste and texture. It is a couple of dollars expensive than other brands but worth the price.
The grain is long and when the rice is cooked it is perfect.Next to TILDA is SWAD brand which is good.
I did not like the buy one get one free brands especially
ZAfarani and Raja rani

Arthi Hi, I buy India gate

Arthi

Hi,

I buy India gate Basmati rice and one malay brand. Both are equally gud...
It gives a lengthy rice than normal one.. hav a try friends

According to me, Brand

According to me, Brand doesnt matter..its all the proportion of water that u add...and the minutes that u cook for.I get HImalayan Pride Basmati rice from Costco.I ve been making Biriyani and Pulav for so long and found through my trial and error that," Water Plays an important role".
1.If u r cooking in a pressure cooker then water and the time matters a lot....
2.Water proportion for Electric and Indian Pressure cooker is for one glass of Basmati rice , water should be 1 and a half and not more than that.I read this once in Aval Vigadan and follwed it and i am successful so far.
3.In a pressure cooker once when u see the steam coming out, u should put the vent and as soon as u hear the first whistle, u should sim down for five minutes and switch off the stove and wait till the cooker completely settles down.
4.Electric cooker stops automatically after it gets cooked completely..so only water matters.
5.If u r making a Dum Biriyani, there comes the need for soaking the rice[ i personally feel] and water is 1nad a half for one cup rice, if there is a need for more water then i keep adjusting according to the need by adding hot water.Adding cold water will mess up the whole content[My personal experience again :)].

These are all my personal experiences that i ve shared.Hope it helps.

Hai I buy Daawat brand

Hai

I buy Daawat brand basmati from costco and it is good, comparing to any other brands that i had used. It is also economical.
I cook it as 1:2 ratio in rice cooker - without soaking or as 1:1and 1/2 in pressure cooker - without soaking.
It is good this way.
